Happy Day - Teapot Tuesday

Well, I know it's Thursday, but I've been busy and didn't have the time to post this for Teapot Tuesday this week.   I'm doing this post at the office, and I forgot to bring my little book where I keep all my card information on products I use, so I'll have to update it later tonight.

Our cards this week are going to Becky Wilkie who was diagnosed with Leukemia (AML) in Aug 2012 and has since undergone several treatments of chemotherapy, radiation, medication & recently a Bone Marrow Transplant on 12/12/12. Mother of 6, grandmother to 3+, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend to many.

Since her transplant, Becky is on an upward trend of recovery but every precaution still needs to be made to free her from infection since she has NO immune system right now. For 2 weeks after the transplant she was taken care of well at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, IL. She has a total of 100 days of isolation before coming home to those that love her. She needs to stay close to the hospital in case she gets ill so she has taken residence with our sister Kim at a special hotel in Oakbrook, IL. During her 100 days she is prescribed several medications to protect her from infections, lessen pain, stabilize the rest of her body and most importantly, prevent her body from rejecting the donated bone marrow.  Check out this post HERE if you want to play along and send a card to Becky.

Our challenge this week -  Americana is where it's at this week. So bring your flags, your eagles, your music and join the Back Alley Kats at the lake.Becky rides a bike herself so extra cookies for bringing a big loud bike to the party.  No music here, but lots of fun with a big loud bike and flags.

Steampunk Rio

Happy Friday!!!!!!  I'm so ready for this week to be over and have a nice beautiful sunny weekend.  It's been cold down in the the low 30's every night and then gray and rainy every day.  I don't like to complain about the rain because we usually really need it, but this is South Texas after all!  Oh well, soon Summer will be here and I'll complain about the heat.

Today I have a little bit of a different card.  It's "Steampunk."  I've seen the name and cards like it around, but have never tried one myself.  I joined a group on FB and the owner is a fabulous artist who draws her own images and this is one that she did.  There is a challenge for the group to make a card using this image in the steampunk technique.  As I said, I'm pretty new to steampunk, so I didn't have a lot of accessories to add to my card, but I did the best with what I had.  If you don't know what it is, click on the link above to read about it.  Here's an excerpt:  Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery,[1] especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.

Here is my card --

 Materials Used:
  • Images - Steampunk Rio from Simply Betty; Clock Face from Time Flies stamp set
  • Sentiment - Sandylion - Time Flies stamp set
  • Cardstock - Xpress It Blending Card; Stampin Up - Apricot Appeal
  • Ink - Memento - Tuxedo Black; Stampin Up - Early Espresso; Apricot Appeal
  • Designer Paper - 7 Gypsies - Venice
  • Accessories - Lace from my stash; Brass corner - Vintaj; brass key - 7 Gypsies; Marvy 1" circle punch
  • Copic markers - B000; C0; E0000, E31, E33, E37, E40, E50, E51, E53; E81; G000, G21, G24, W1; Y21, Y23, Y25, and Y38
That's it.  Hope you like it.  It was really fun playing with this image, and I think I'm going to have to hunt up some more "steampunk" embellishments for future cards.

I am submitting this card to the following challenges:

Paper Crafting Journey - Anything Goes
Shelly's Images - 1 Sentiment; 2 Pattern Papers; 3 Embellishments/Bling
Simply Create - Always Anything Goes

Pansies in a Cup - MMTPT232

Good morning my friends.  I worked on this card last week, but with all the issues going on at my house, I wasn't able to finish it up until this weekend.  So even though it's a week late, here it is.  This is for Teapot Tuesday on Splitcoaststampers and the first I've been able to do for some time now.  I love flowers and especially purple ones, so this was easy to do.

If you don't know, Teapot Tuesday is a weekly challenge where you make a card for a specific person for a specific reason - either they are ill, someone has passed on, or they just need some extra special attention.  This week our destination is San Antonio, Texas. If you would like a destination for your card this week, how about sending it to Sherry? Sherry was brought to our attention by fellow SCSer and faithful Teapotter, Phyllis ( SparklePlenty 1000 ). Sherry is the life-long friend of Phyllis and is struggling with the loss of her husband last year in a tragic accident and limitations of her own from injuries she sustained herself.
For the address to mail your cards to as well as some more information about Sherry's circumstances, please visit Post #331 in the Teapot Tuesday Destination Station thread. Please remember that just because you participate in a Teapot Tuesday challenge that is combined with a card drive request, it does not mean that you are REQUIRED to send your cards. It is totally 100% voluntary!

The theme was to use flowers and an uplifting sentiment.  Here's the card that I created for Sherry.
I know that I got this image off my computer, but now for the life of me, I cannot find it and didn't write down where it came from.  I'll have to do a better search and will update that information when I find it.  If you recognize it, let me know.
Materials Used:
  • Image - Pansies in a Cup - Fred She Said
  • Sentiment - Hero Arts - Thinking of You (I use this set a lot.  I love the variety of words and styles they included in it.)
  • Cardstock - Xpress It Blending Card; Stampin Up - Lovely Lilac
  • Pattern Paper - Gina K Designs - Wisteria Lane
  • Layout - Bev Rochester - All the Things I Love Blog
  • Accessories:  Nestabilities - Classic Circle Die; Scallop Circle Die; Fabulous Finds Die; Punch - Corner Rounder; Memory Keepers - Bakers' Twine
  • Copic Markers - BV000, BV13, BV17; E0000, E000, E40; G40, G43, G82; Y11, Y15, and Y19

In Loving Memory of Reggie (June 2001 - January 2013)

Hi, my blog is normally for my paper crafting projects, but today is a special day and I have a very heavy heart.  Today I'm honoring my sweet little girl, Reggie, who went home to Heaven.  Yes, I do believe animals go to Heaven and we'll all be reunited one day.
This is the last picture I took of her this morning before our trip to the vet.  She was a very special kitty and a survivor of sorts.  She was born during June of 2001 during Tropical Storm Alison here in Houston, better known to us Houstonians as The Great Flood!  Unless you saw pictures, you would not believe how much water covered our city.  It was incredible.  She was an orphan found by a scrap metal dealer in a large bin by herself.  She was only about 4 days old.  He took her to a friend of his and of mine who was a cat rescuer.  I had already gotten 2 other cats from her (Paisley and Chancey) a year earlier.  My girlfriend fed her and nursed her until it was time for Reggie to find a forever home.  Who could resist?  I know I couldn't and scooped her right up and brought her home.  For me and my other kitty family, she was a sweetheart.  She was a little spitfire though when it came to others, but she managed to tolerate visitors.

Her illness came as a complete shock and surprise to me.  I came home from work on Monday evening and she was having some stomach issues.  I would have taken her right to the vet on Tuesday but my car was also in distress.  I noticed steam coming up from under the hood on my way home from work on Monday, so I knew that I needed to take care of that first thing on Tuesday.  I couldn't go anywhere else except to the car dealership.  So Tuesday morning I was able to take her to the vet and was told she had a lot of fluid in her abdomen and that her blood pressure was very low.  In fact, so low, that it was very difficult for him to get blood out of her to send off for analysis along with some of the fluid taken from her abdomen.  We had to wait until today to get the results back and unfortunately, it was not good news.  She had cancer, probably in her liver and/or intestines.  There was nothing to be done for her - no treatment, no cure.  I won't go into the other issues she had been having since Wednesday, but I knew that she was in distress and that the best thing for her was to have her euthanized.  She needed relief from what she was going through.  I got the news while I was at work and went home and sat with her for awhile petting her and talking to her so she'd know how much she was loved.  She purred and drooled (long hair cats seem to do this).  It was with a very heavy heart that I took her back to the vet to perform the procedure.  I did stay with her until the very end so she knew that that someone was there and cared for her.  Her body will be cremated and her ashes sent to me.  My little pet cemetery in my back yard is getting full.

It was very weird though and I swear this is true.  As I was driving home and was approaching my house and about to turn into the driveway, I distinctly and clearly heard a cat's meow.  I didn't have one in my car and there were none out on the street and besides, I had the windows up.  I know that it was Reggie telling me it was okay and she was fine.  She'll be in my heart always.

Rest in peace my beautiful girl.

Winter Wishes - PSC61

Hello again my friends.  Hope your week is going well.  This is my first full week back after vacation and it's not such a good week as yet and it's only Wednesday!  My car is in the shop. There was steam coming out from under the hood - somethings leaking.  Luckily it's under warranty so no cost to me!!!!!   I will also ask for prayers for my Reggie cat.  She's the big one in the middle photo up above.  She's got an appointment with the vet today which is not always a fun thing.  She hates going to the vet and lets him know about it,but with the lethargy she is showing the last couple of days, she may not even mind.  I just hope it's something he can do something about.

Well it is Wednesday and time again for our Perfect Sentiment Challenge.  Our theme this week is Winter Wonderland. The object is to creat a card with a sentiment for Winter.  Use a Winter image or any embellishments, embossing, embossing folders, etc. to give your card a Winter feel.  Go ahead and think outside the box if you have to. . . cups of cocoa, etc.

Our sponsor this week is Meljen's Designs and the random winner will receive 4 free digis.

Here is my card for this week, and I've used one of the Meljen's Designs images.

Materials Used:
  • Image - Meljen's Designs - North Pole Critters
